EYELASH EXTENSIONS FAQ
+ What makes our eyelash extension service extraordinary?
We focus on the quality of service we provide rather than cater to the quantity of getting as many appointments through our door. Each of our services are carefully thought out and personally designed to create a beautiful long-lasting set of lashes that perfectly suits your facial frame. Our highly-qualified technicians are trained to listen to your lash goals, discussing how they can achieve those goals, while maintaining healthy lashes that aren’t weighed down, damaged and offer great retention.
+ How long do eyelash extensions last? How often do I need a fill?
There are a couple of factors that determine the retention of extensions:
- The technician’s application skill and their understanding of glue mechanisms, along with the ability to assess and see what will work best with your lashes.
- The client’s aftercare. We will give you a few tips on how to keep your lashes looking good and long-lasting in between fills.
- The lifestyle and natural lash growth cycle and speed (everyone is unique in their own little way!).
Extensions will fall off a little bit at a time, based on these factors. It may take up to 2 to 3 months for the final lash to fall off. These are the best time frames for the look you want to maintain:
- Two weeks: For perfect full-looking lashes at all times.
- Three weeks: Most common timeframe for fills, which maintains the consistency of the lash set.
- Four weeks: The maximum time suggested for a fill, made for those have great retention or are very short on time.
+ I had my lashes done at a different salon, am I able to fill them here?
We pride ourselves in our art and want to make certain that your lashes are of the best quality and consistent. In order to achieve that, we have a strict no refill policy when it comes to other places.
+ I’ve had bad experiences with retention from outside technicians that weren’t ideal or consistent. What may have gone wrong?
With our knowledge and deep understanding of the chemical characteristics of glue, we acknowledge that the majority of retention responsibility falls on the technician’s capabilities in setting up the proper environment and correct application. Although oily skin and an active lifestyle can contribute to worse retention, it should not be the root of retention issues. Our technicians are well-versed in understanding the science behind lash glue molecular bonding, so we are absolutely confident that our lashes will last on any client with healthy lashes who practices good after care.
Applying eyelash extensions is high precision work, where movement by the client can affect retention. Therefore, we encourage minimized conversation at our studio to ensure our technicians can focus on application and be time efficient.
+ Can eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes and should I take a break?
We take high regard in making sure your natural lashes are never damaged.
Improper application can cause damage to your natural lashes by sticking lashes together, which happens when one false lash is applied to 2 or more natural lashes causing it to be pulled out prematurely, using extensions that are too heavy for the natural lash, and applying glue on the lash line, creating blockage of the lash duct.
If your lashes are applied correctly by the technician and you take the time to ensure proper aftercare is maintained, taking a break will not be needed for lash growth. However, clients have the freedom to do what they feel is most comfortable for them.
+ What makes our pricing unique?
Each individual client differs in the amount of lashes they have, therefore, the proper time and attention may vary from person to person. We charge by time, as opposed to the standard practice of charging by the type of lash set. This allows for flexibility in the style that suits best, being able to cater to each individual’s lashes, ensuring equality for all of our clients with less hassle and complications. We are confident that our prices speak for themselves, and tips are not expected by the end of the appointment. We have full faith that our technicians are trained to meet the highest quality and standards, working efficiently to achieve the client’s desired look.
+ Why is each technician priced differently?
Our technicians rate is based on the quality of their work, the variety of techniques they are capable of (their ability to create a certain look and the mapping technique), and their level of experience. You will get the quality service that you pay for.
+ I have had a bad reaction with my previous lash extension experience. Is it safe to try again?
There are two types of reactions that trigger reactions when it comes to eyelash extensions: an allergic reaction and a chemical burn. Less than 1% of our clients are actually allergic to the glue we use. In most reactionary cases, people experience a reaction due to chemical burn. How to identify an allergic reaction vs. a chemical burn?
- People who experience an allergic reaction will usually get a swollen eye within 24 hours of application. Extensions will need to be removed in order to recover from the reaction. There is a possibility for someone to develop an allergic reaction over time even if they’ve been fine with previous applications.
- A chemical burn is caused by the fumes of the glue. Symptoms can include red eyes, discharge, irritation, itchiness, and dry eyes. Some may experience minor swelling. It usually goes away after 1 to 2 days (once the glue has completely cured). This type of sensitivity can be caused by the fumes from the glue during the curing process. Certain eye shapes that don’t allow for the eyes to fully close during the procedure are more likely to get chemical burn.
While allergic reactions cannot be avoided, chemical burns can be significantly minimized by careful application. All of our technicians are trained to avoid chemical burn situations. We want to make sure our clients are comfortable before and after application.
+ How do I take care of my eyelash extensions?
- The most important thing to ensure the maintenance of your eyelash extensions is to avoid disturbing them or touching them as much as possible. This is crucial, especially within the first 24 hours of application.
- Avoid getting your extensions wet for the first 12 hours. With our newest technique, the bonds are mostly cured during the appointment. The reason we suggest not to get them wet is to prevent disturbing the bonds as much as possible. It is completely fine if you want to take a quick shower on the same day as your appointment, as long as the extensions and your lashes aren’t soaked.
- Avoiding sleeping on your lashes or on your face.
- Refrain from using oil-based products or creams close to your lashes. If oil-based products get on your lashes, clean them off as soon as possible with a gentle cleanser to avoid oil saturating the lashes.
- For better retention, avoid contact with high heat. Anything heat related like hot yoga, saunas, and steam rooms will weaken bonds and shorten the retention of your lash extensions.
- We recommend using eye protection for water sports or extreme sports where speed is involved. The bond used between the extension and natural lashes are very strong, and can cause friction leading to both the extensions and natural lashes falling off. Alternatively, we suggest getting shorter length extensions, or a lash lift instead.
+ I don’t have decent or full natural lashes, can I still achieve a full look?
The fullness and condition of your natural lashes pre-determines the set of eyelash extensions you can achieve. The fuller and healthier your lashes are, the more various styles can be attainable. Each natural lash has a limit of how much weight it can carry, and too much weight will lead to damage. The most effective way to ensure that your natural lashes are full and healthy is to use eyelash serum consistently.
+ Does eyelash serum really work? Why should I use serum if I’m getting lash services done?
Yes, some serums really do work. We tested many different brands to make sure we are getting the best results for our clients. What we carry has the best balance of quality, minimal irritation, and good value.
It takes about 4 - 6 weeks to start seeing results and another 3 - 4 months to see full results. Most clients experience a 50% increase in thickness after the full results. Whether you choose lash extensions or a lash lift, the condition of your natural lashes play an important role in giving you the best, most long-lasting results. Consistent use is the most important factor with lash serums.
+ Can I still get eyelash extensions while I’m pregnant?
Yes, as long as you are comfortable lying down on your back for 1 - 2 hours during the process. If you prefer to lie on your side we can definitely accommodate that. We recommend booking a shorter session with one of our more experienced technicians to provide the most comfort.
+ I want more voluminous lashes but I’m worried they will have a “caterpillar look”, are we able to avoid that?
The “caterpillar look” is a result of poor styling - an example of quantity over quality. Not only do they look unattractive, this also causes damage to your natural lashes, weighing them down. We value quality over quantity, and are able to achieve a full look in the most natural way.
+ Can I wear makeup with eyelash extensions?
Yes, you can wear anything except mascara and false lashes. We will not do fills on lashes that have mascara or false lash glue on.
Some reasons to avoid wearing too much makeup are:
- The process of removing heavy makeup can result in the disturbance of the extensions.
- It can cause damage and decrease the retention if not done in a gentle manner.
Any makeup that falls or is stuck on the extension and not fully removed can cause buildup and lead to infections and poor hygiene.
+ Can I go swimming with lash extensions?
Yes, you can go swimming after 48 hours of application. We strongly suggest you wear goggles to protect your lashes. If you are a regular swimmer we recommend shorter length lashes. When swimming in chlorine water or salt water, make sure to rinse your lashes with fresh water and brush them after. Please keep in mind that frequently soaking extensions in water can decrease retention. It is possible to have good retention as a swimmer with goggle use and following aftercare procedures. We do have clients who are regular swimmers and still have amazing retention.
+ Can I bring an example photo of the look I am wanting to achieve?
Yes, reference photos are most welcome. Keep in mind that your eye shape and the condition of your natural lashes play a big role in the design and results of your extensions. The lashes in reference photos may be different from what works for you. Our technicians will diligently assess this and let you know what works best for you.
